The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner recently updated the online record for the late actor Matthew Perry on Sunday afternoon. The cause of his death is listed as “deferred.” According to the guidelines followed by the LA coroner, a deferred certificate is issued when the cause of death cannot be determined at the time of the autopsy, pending further investigation and studies.
The autopsy on Matthew Perry has been completed, but the coroner is currently awaiting the results of a toxicology report. This report will help determine if any substances, including drugs, contributed to the actor’s untimely demise.

According to law enforcement sources, Perry was found unresponsive in a hot tub. The initial call to 911 was made on Saturday at 4:07 PM, requesting a water rescue. The LAPD promptly responded at 4:10 PM and subsequently categorized the call as a death investigation.
