Prayers for Jimmy Carter as His Foundation Makes Grim Announcement

Former President Jimmy Carter, currently the oldest living president at 98 years old, has recently entered hospice care. This decision comes after several hospital stays and is supported by his family and medical team.

Carter’s health has faced multiple challenges in recent years. In 2015, he successfully battled brain cancer, and in 2019, he underwent brain surgery to alleviate pressure. Despite these health issues, Carter’s resilient spirit remains strong.

Carter’s grandson, Jason Carter, provided an update on his grandfather’s condition during the 28th Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum. Jason shared that his grandfather has been in hospice for almost a year and a half and that he believes his grandfather is nearing the end of his journey.

“As I’ve said before, there’s a part of this faith journey that is so important to him,” Jason emphasized. “And there’s a part of that faith journey that you only can live at the very end, and I think he has been there in that space.”

Despite these trying times, Carter’s indomitable spirit continues to shine. Just a few weeks ago, while watching the Atlanta Braves, Jason had a heartfelt conversation with his grandfather. When asked by people about Carter’s condition, Jason would reply, “I don’t know.” In response, his grandfather said, “Well, I don’t know myself.” This exchange illustrates the strength and resilience that Carter still holds.

Exactly one year after entering hospice care, Carter’s family, in a video aired on CBS Sunday Morning, expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love and affirmed that Carter is surrounded by his loved ones. They acknowledged that although his body may be frail, his spirit remains as strong as ever.

Despite his own health challenges, Carter was able to attend his wife Rosalynn’s funeral. In a touching tribute to their enduring love, he draped himself with a blanket depicting their portrait and the text “The Carters” and “Est. 1885” embroidered on it, honoring their childhood meeting place in Plains, Georgia.

Former President Jimmy Carter is not only known for his time as the 39th president of the United States but also for his roles as a retired peanut farmer, a US Navy Lieutenant, and a Sunday School teacher. He has dedicated himself to volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, currently reside in Plains, Georgia, and have four children together: Amy, Donnel, Jack, and James.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Jimmy Carter and his family as they continue to support each other through his journey.
