I gave my life to Christ… now what?

If you are a new believer or know one, listen up! You are a child of God! You are forgiven and free! Your name is written in the book of Lambs! You are royalty! You have been redeemed! Saved by Grace!

Maybe you don’t feel like you are royalty. Maybe you feel like you made a mistake asking Jesus into your life, because you are not perfect yet. You might even feel confused about your decision; although it was absolutely right at the time and you knew Jesus was speaking to your heart and calling you by name…but maybe things are a bit foggy now and reality is setting in. You are not perfect and your past is not pretty.

Don’t let the enemy take anything away from you. YOU are loved, you are saved, you are forgiven and free. You will spend eternity in Heaven with your King! I John 1:9; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” The bible doesn’t lie, it is our truth!

You gave your life to Christ and now it’s time to learn how to live your life for Christ. To surrender your life; heart, mind, finances, family, future; your everything to Jesus! It’s time to learn what it means to “walk in the light of Jesus”.

1 Timothy 6:11-12 teaches us to “flee from evil and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

You may be thinking that your faith is not very strong at this stage in your life. You may even be feeling a little unworthy because your faith is so weak. Good news, Jesus has the power to increase your faith! You do not have to do that on your own! It is a process. Every day as you read God’s word, pray and talk with him, sing worship songs to him, you will grow to know Him more and love Him more. You will see Him working in your life and your faith in Him will increase. It’s a process called sanctification. From the time you give your life to Jesus and until the day you leave this earth and are called home to be with Him in heaven, that is the process of being made holy, sanctified.

Here are some recommendations to grow in your faith in Jesus. Start your day with Jesus. Every morning before your feet hit the floor, say a little prayer like this one; God, today is your day. Show me what you want me to do. Open my eyes to see. Open my ears to hear. Open my heart to love who you want me to love. I give you this day. Amen.

Prayer is a way to grow in your faith and build your relationship with the Lord. Prayer can be as simple as having a talk with God about what is going on in your life. He wants to be included in your life, in your plans. Prayer is powerful! It draws us into fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Get involved in a bible study at your church. Begin studying God’s word. The bible is our authority. It’s our truth. How can we learn what God wants from us if we don’t open our bibles and study and learn and allow Him to speak to us and teach us?

Remember, just because you gave your life to Christ and are “saved”, doesn’t mean everything will be perfect in your life. After all Jesus said, “in this world you will have trouble”, the good news is that Jesus goes on to say “But take heart! I have overcome the world”, (John 16:33). When trouble comes, and it will; our Lord and Savior will be there with you to walk through it. He will even carry you through it when you can’t walk!

A nasty little four letter word will try to cause your faith to diminish.
FEAR. Fear stands for “False Evidence Appearing Real”. When you are feeling fearful, there are so many wonderful scriptures to hold onto and to change that fear into faith. Here are a few of my favorites (version NIV);

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?” Psalm 27:1

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” Psalm 46: 1

“Do not be afraid of sudden panic, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught” Proverbs 3:25-26

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5-6

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me” Psalm 23:4

Those are just a few scriptures to read and claim when you are feeling fearful. Speak them out loud and declare the Lord’s promises for yourself!

From the book of Ephesians, we learn that we are Chosen, Forgiven and Marked (by the Holy Spirit). We also learn that we have hope, glory and power (God’s strength becomes our strength). I like to start every day with a prayer out of Ephesians (6:10-19) to be protected and battle ready for whatever the day holds. We learn that we are to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Paul teaches us how to put the full armor of God on ourselves so that we can take our stand against the devil’s schemes. Put on the BELT of Truth, BREASTPLATE of righteousness, our feet fitted with the READINESS that comes from the gospel of peace. We learn to take up the SHEILD of FAITH, so that we can extinguish the flaming arrows of the evil one and the HELMET OF Salvation and the SWORD of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Cover yourselves and your families in this prayer daily because the bible says the enemy is roaming around like a lion looking for people to devour.

When you give your life to Jesus, HE gives the gift of his Holy Spirit to live in your heart. The Holy Spirit will be your counselor, your guide, your strength, your friend, your defender and your peace in trouble times. You are never alone. That is a promise from Jesus; “I will never leave you or forsake you”, Joshua 1:5

Remember how much God loves you; He chose you! “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses all knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:16-19

God does not call us to be perfect. He calls us to have a perfect relationship with him. Your life will look different now. Allow God to transform your life. He created you and He has a plan and purpose just for you.

Never forget, He calls you His child, your King considers you royalty. You are saved by grace. You are forgiven and set free from darkness. You are a child of HIS light! Now hold your head up high in confidence. Not arrogance, but a bold confidence that you serve a Mighty God! A life-changing and transforming God!
