Ellen DeGeneres Has Reportedly Left The U.S. For Good Following Trump Win

It appears that Ellen DeGeneres might have bid farewell to America for good. The beloved former talk show host and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, have reportedly put their Montecito, California estate on the market. Sources, including The Wrap and TMZ, suggest that their departure is tied to Vice President Kamala Harris losing her bid for the presidency.

According to The Wrap, Ellen has made a new home for herself in the Cotswolds, a picturesque region in the United Kingdom. This move comes as no surprise given the remarks Ellen made in her 2024 Netflix special, where she candidly mentioned feeling like she had been “kicked out of show business” due to accusations of bullying and fostering a “toxic work environment” on her daytime show.

She went on to say that there was a time when she felt like “the most hated person in America.”

Notably, Ellen is not the first celebrity to leave the U.S. Actor Eva Longoria, known for her performances in American television, has also relocated, citing changes in the Californian lifestyle as a key reason for her move. Longoria has been vocal about her reasons for leaving, sharing that after spending much of her adult life in California, recent developments such as rising homelessness and tax hikes made her feel it was time for a new chapter. She and her family now divide their time between Mexico and Spain.

The COVID-19 pandemic further influenced Longoria’s decision. She described California in her interview with Marie Claire as a place that had fundamentally changed, feeling it was finally time to move on.

Eva Longoria noted how the outcome of the presidential election reinforced her decision to relocate. She said, “I am privileged enough to be able to move, and I feel for those who cannot leave what I’ve come to view as a dystopian environment.” Both Ellen DeGeneres and Eva Longoria were avid supporters of Kamala Harris. DeGeneres even endorsed Harris publicly when she was selected to replace Joe Biden, and she contributed to Harris’ campaign efforts.
