Dad and 6-year-old daughter found dead after she misses school

In the quiet town of West Calder, Scotland, a heartbreaking tragedy unfolded when a 6-year-old girl named Hope Gordon and her father, Mark Gordon, 36, were found lifeless in their family home.

Concerns Rose When Young Hope Didn’t Show Up At School

It was a typical Monday, January 20, when Hope’s absence from her school raised alarms. Chief Superintendent Gregg Banks from Police Scotland explained, โ€œWe received a call categorized as โ€˜concern forโ€™ regarding a child who hadnโ€™t attended school. A family member had noticed and contacted us.โ€

Hope’s parents shared custody, but she had been staying with her dad for a prolonged period.

At the initial stage, authorities did not suspect any outside interference in their deaths.

As the investigation unfolded, a post-mortem revealed a tragic turn of events being considered a suspected murder-suicide, as reported by The Sun.

Detective Superintendent Grant Hendry from the Major Investigation Team expressed, โ€œOur heartfelt sympathies are with Hopeโ€™s family and those touched by this devastating event.โ€

โ€œThe families are, understandably, heartbroken, and we are offering them dedicated support during this harrowing time.โ€

โ€œOur officers are diligently working to uncover the truth and provide some relief to the families involved. At present, there is no indication of involvement by any other parties.โ€

Detective Chief Inspector Williamson has called upon the community for assistance, saying, โ€œIf you possess any information, regardless of its perceived importance, please reach out to our officers.โ€

Chief Superintendent Gregg Banks has assured that while the event has shocked the community, it remains an isolated incident without broader public risk.

โ€œWe are striving to piece together the events within the household to answer the pressing questions from a family in deep mourning.โ€

Hope was a vibrant student at Toronto Primary School in Livingston.

Fiona Linfoot, the school’s headteacher, reflected fondly on Hope, describing her as โ€œa bright, lively, and affectionate child.โ€

โ€œHope was dearly loved by everyone in the Toronto Primary community. Her absence will be profoundly felt by her friends and school staff.โ€
